SOUTH PARK JUNIOR EAGLES

Player Safety

It may surprise parents to know that, at the youth level, organized football among 5- to 15-year-olds has 12% fewer injuries per player than organized soccer in the same age range. (U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, NEISS).

It is the priority of SPYFC to teach proper technique and skill to keep all players and cheerleaders safe as they participate in Tackle Football and Recreational Sideline Cheer.

Safety First

Participant safety has always been SPYFC's number one priority. The Heads Up Football program is the latest step in delivering a safer program to all players.  Heads Up Football is a unique coach certification program by USA Football that advances player safety through education and nationally endorsed standards. • Grade and Weight Restrictions – Divisions are separated by grade to ensure players are matched by maturity. There is no maximum weight limit for participation, however, there shall be weight limitations pertaining to all “skill” positions handling the ball (QB, RB, WR, TE).

              1. Division I (5th & 6th Grade) – 120 lbs.
              2. Division II (3rd & 4th Grade) – 100 lbs.
              3. Division III (K - 2nd Grade) – 75 lbs.

  • Heads Up Coach Training and Certification – All coaches are Heads Up certified by the USA Football Association.  The program includes football fundamentals, practice planning, communication, skill development, first aid, and concussion recognition and response.
  • Helmets – Helmets today use advanced technology to protect players. Helmets must be replaced or refurbished every 2 years to ensure players are well protected from impacts.
  • Clearances – All coaches and volunteers must submit clearances in accordance WPYFL league policy.
  • Contact Limitations – Practices are structured around league guidelines to regulate contact time.
  • Conditioning Requirements – Players must complete a minimum 5 days of heat acclimation and conditioning before putting on pads.
  • First Aid - All of our head coaches are AHA CPR/AED certified. We also have an AED and first aid kit at all camps, practices, and games.
  • Medics - We provide medics through Tri-Community EMS at all SPYFC tackle football games.
  • Security - We provide constable services during all SPYFC tackle football games.
